Through collaboration with 35 colleagues, we led the creation of a Prevention and Intervention Manual at Johnson Elementary School. We invited stakeholders on every level of the school community to have their voice heard and put their own pens to paper in designing and improving the policies and procedures that promotes success for every student. The manual allows intentionality, transparency, cultural responsiveness, and inclusivity in our rules and regulations. It also encourages consistency in the expectations set for the school community and buy-in from the school community, as it is representative of their own voices.
The Prevention and Intervention manual categorizes the policies, procedures, and systems of support in accordance with Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports by identifying universal supports (for all students), targeted interventions (for students who require additional support), and intensive interventions (for students who have not responded to earlier interventions or who are in an immediate crisis).
